MALTA – Six people are facing drug charges after a traffic stop Saturday in Malta, state police said Wednesday.
Troopers stopped the vehicle late Friday after spotting multiple traffic infractions, state police said.
After speaking with the driver, identified as Kristy L. Santos, 39, of Ausable, and her passengers, the trooper spotted signs of drug use, state police said.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered 11.5 grams of cocaine troopers said belonged to Santos. Troopers also found 5.8 grams of cocaine, a glass smoking pipe containing cocaine and a piece of paper towel containing less than a gram of cocaine in the back seat area.
One of the passengers, Paige M. Bashaw, 39, of Ausable, was also found with about 2.5 grams of cocaine and glass smoking pipes containing cocaine residue on her, state police said.
Each of the six people in the vehicle, Santos, Bashaw, Jeremy S. Bulger, 34, of Ausable; James B. Jones, 51, of Schroon Lake; and Donald J. Labarge Jr., 48, of Plattsburgh, were each charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a narcotic drug, felonies, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, state police said.
Santos was also charged with an additional count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a narcotic drug and Bashaw with one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, state police said.
Each of the six was processed and released to appear in court in July.
