In Schenectady, volunteers from a wide variety of organizations (including the Proctors Guild, Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corp, New York Folklore Society, Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County,) packed nearly 2,000 bags of art supplies to go to children living in municipal housing in Albany and Schenectady counties. These art supplies will support the this coming weekend’s virtual Kids Arts Festival. Not only are the bags filled with crayons, chalk, tape, origami paper, yarns, coloring & construction papers, but even the bag can be used creatively. The online festival (for two hours on June 6 and two hours on June 7) will have more than 30 different segments. Donations from 12 companies and 29 individuals paid for these supplies as well as entertainment for the four hours of fun activities for children and their families this coming weekend. Kids Arts Festival is presented by the ElectriCity Arts District.

In Schenectady, caregivers, volunteers and staff members held a car parade at a local senior care center to recognize and express their gratitude to those who work on the front lines every day and especially those impacted in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. The Alzheimer’s Association, Northeastern New York last week held a “Hooray for OUR Heroes” car parade of a dozen cars, driving and parking in front of the Kingsway Community local senior living center to cheer and hold signs recognizing the nurses and staff during the stay-at-home order. Kingsway Community is a corporate partner and supports the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, annual conference and Gala. The large majority of individuals living in these settings are older, with underlying chronic conditions that put them at higher risk for COVID-19. Yet during these challenging and frequently heartbreaking times, nurses at these facilities have stepped up in the face of this pandemic.
In Clifton Park, Yankee Distillers recently donated hundreds of half-gallon bottles of their sanitizer for distribution in the Saratoga County Foundation’s Small Business Recovery Kits. The Saratoga County Foundation, a nonprofit charitable affiliate of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, raised money during the 2020 Small Business Week last month to create Small Business Recovery Kits that included a wide range of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for businesses reopening during the recovery.
