Warren Co. Sheriff: Ballston Spa man arrested on warrant in 2017 attempted rape case

WARREN COUNTY – A Ballston Spa man has been arrested after failing to show up for court after posting bail in an attempted rape online sting case, Warren County Sheriff’s officials said.

Jose Roberto Zapata-Cruz, 35, of Bath Street, Ballston Spa, had been arrested with several others in June 2017 in an online sting and accused of attempting to meet a 13-year-old to rape, officials said.

Then of Schenectady, he was charged with second-degree attempted rape, a felony. He was arraigned and ordered held on bail, which he later posted.

Zapata-Cruz then failed to appear at a court appearance and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. He was then taken back into custody Monday, officials said.
