TOWN OF JOHNSTOWN – One man was airlifted to Syracuse for treatment of burns suffered in a barn fire Sunday night in the Town of Johnstown, Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino said.
The resident was in critical but stable condition Monday, Sammonsville Fire Department officials wrote on Facebook.
The fire was called in at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday at 402 County Highway 116, Giardino said.
The man was injured as he worked to get livestock and a tractor out of the barn, Giardino said. No livestock were lost.

The Sammonsville department noted the man’s injuries, and credited the response of firefighters with avoiding damage beyond the barn.
“With the quick response and effective team work the loss was limited to the barn only, saving the house,” the department wrote.
Sammonsville thanked seven surrounding departments for their help in the incident, Sir William Johnson, Meco, Ephratah, RGL, Mohawk, Pleasant Square and Mayfield.
Sammonsville also cited assistance from the Fulton County Emergency Management/Fire Coordinator’s Office, Town of Johnstown Highway Department, Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Sammonsville Auxiliary.
