FULTONVILLE – A Fultonville man used a baseball bat to hit another person in the head Monday, causing a skull fracture, state police said.

The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center via helicopter for treatment, troopers said.

Troopers arrested Robert L. Vanalstyne, 49, of Fultonville, and charged him with one count of first-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Troopers were called to the Fultonville residence just after 4:30 p.m. Monday for a domestic dispute, state police said. They arrived to find a victim suffering from a head injury.

Troopers also soon took Vanalstyne into custody. He is accused of striking the victim in the head with the bat during an altercation, state police said.

Vanalstyne was arraigned and released to return to court Thursday.
