ALBANY – A Bronx man was sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison this past week after admitting to a heroin distribution conspiracy that focused on Schenectady, federal prosecutors said.
Jean Carlos Rivera-Perez, 38, was sentenced Tuesday to a total of 11 years, three months in prison.
He admitted earlier to conspiring to distribute heroin to a Schenectady-based drug trafficking organization, U.S. Attorney’s officials said.

Rivera-Perez admitted in his plea to being a member of a drug trafficking organization that distributed a kilogram or more of heroin in Schenectady between 2017 and Dec. 20, 2018, officials said.
Rivera-Perez was the organization’s supplier and, through a courier, regularly delivered hundreds of grams of heroin from the Bronx to Schenectady. He then received thousands of dollars in return, officials said.
The heroin was then sold in personal-use amounts in and around Schenectady by other members of the organization, officials said.
In sentencing Rivera-Perez, Judge Mae A. D’Agostino found Rivera-Perez obtained $340,000 in heroin proceeds by supplying the organization in Schenectady. Rivera-Perez has “King of Dope” tattooed across his abdomen, prosecutors said.
Rivera-Perez was charged with eight other defendants, all of whom have plead guilty. The others are from the Bronx, Schenectady and Amsterdam.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the state police, Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Amsterdam Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cyrus P.W. Rieck prosecuted.
