BALLSTON SPA – A Ballston Spa man has been arrested, accused of driving drunk while missing a tire, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.

Richard C. Currier, II, 32, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony, as well as first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, officials said.

Deputies stopped Currier after receiving a complaint from another driver on Blue Barns Road in Clifton Park at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday, officials said. Deputies stopped him on Kingsley Road in the Town of Ballston.

The caller reported the driver and followed the driver north on Blue Barns Road until deputies caught up with them, officials said.

The deputy then reported seeing sparks fly from the driver’s side of the car due to the missing tire, officials said. Currier initially failed to stop for the deputy, but eventually pulled over, officials said.

Currier is also accused of striking a traffic sign in Niskayuna prior to the stop, officials said.

Currier was also cited for consuming an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, failure to use a designated lane, failure to obey a police officer, failure to keep right and unsafe tires. Niskayuna cited him for leaving the scene of the crash with the traffic sign, officials said.

Currier was arraigned via video conference and released to pretrial services to await further action, officials said.
