COLONIE – A teacher has been arrested, accused of possessing child pornography and an assault weapon, police said Thursday.
Police identified the man arrested as Sean M. Miller, 26, of Latham. He told police he was a teacher at the Warren Street Academy in Hudson.
Miller faces one count each of possessing and promoting a sexual performance by a child and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.
Police arrested him Thursday morning as they executed a search warrant on his residence on Coventry Court in Latham, police said.
The state police Computer Crime Unit had received a cyber-tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children task force indicating that an individual in the residence had possessed and transmitted images containing child pornography over the internet. The images were not believed to be of local victims, police said.
Police soon determined Miller to be responsible for possessing and transmitting the images. They also found him to be in possession of an illegal assault weapon, police said.
Police also seized Miller’s computer devices to be forensically examined.
Though Miller said he was a teacher, the school he apparently worked at in Hudson is closing at the end of this month, police said, citing their research. Police were unable to contact the school, but did contact Hudson Police.
“While the investigation has not revealed any known victims in this area, the nature of this offense and his access to children lead us to ask that anyone that has information or may have been victimized by this defendant to contact their local police department,” Colonie police said in a release.
Miller was arraigned and released under supervision of probation.
