JOHNSTOWN – A Gloversville man has been arrested, accused of possessing an illegal assault weapon, stolen property and fireworks, state police said.

Derrick R. Sweet Jr., 30, of Gloversville was arrested Friday and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felonies, along with misdemeanor unlawful sale of fireworks, state police said.

Troopers executed a search warrant Friday at a residence in Johnstown following a Gloversville Police Department investigation into several burglaries and larcenies in the Gloversville area, state police said.

Inside, investigators found the illegal assault weapon, stolen generators, power tools and retail merchandise, along with several hundred dollars worth of fireworks, state police said.
