SCHOHARIE COUNTY — Family Farm Day has been canceled this year because of the spread of COVID-19.
Cornell Cooperative Extension has held the event every year since 2013. Throughout the event, families are encouraged to experience tours, rides, activities, samples and get close to local Schoharie County farm animals.
“It’s a challenge with people going farm to farm in regular times. … The protocols we’d have to put in place would just be too much,” Extension Agriculture Program leader David Cox said Tuesday.
But Cornell Cooperative Extension is offering an online farm product listing to “build awareness of agriculture and their customer bases.” Farms in Schoharie, Otsego and Delaware counties may participate.
“It’s a way that I’m inviting the farms to stay visible a little more than they may already be,” Cox said. “It may lead to something next year, as a tool that I’ll use. It’s going to be more helpful for us as we work into next year.”
Farms may register online at www.familyfarmday.org.
