MOREAU – A Moreau man fought over a suspected drug transaction while in the presence of two young children, state police said this week.
Nathaniel R. Barnes, 37, of Moreau, was arrested Friday and charged with third-degree and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence, felonies, along with two counts of misdemeanor child endangerment.
The incident happened before 5 p.m. Friday at a residence in Moreau. Troopers were called there for a fight in progress and soon determined Barnes had been in an altercation with two unknown individuals over the suspected drug transaction, state police said. The unknown individuals left the scene before troopers arrived.
Troopers also soon discovered that the fight had taken place near Barnes’ two young children, state police said.
As troopers spoke with Barnes, troopers also observed him kicking a plastic baggie containing suspected cocaine in an attempt to conceal it, leading to the tampering charge, state police said. Barnes was also found in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Barnes was processed and released to appear in Moreau Town Court later.
