The Schenectady Light Opera Company has canceled its season for the first time since World War II.
“We know the leadership at that time felt the same responsibility we feel now, to weather this crisis and get us through to the other side,” company leaders wrote in a statement.
“We have withstood 94 years of change and we know that with your support, our rich history will continue.”
According to the statement, the 2020-2021 season was canceled due to safety concerns surrounding COVID-19. “The health and safety of our cast, crew, volunteers and patrons is our highest priority, and SLOC is simply unable to guarantee that at this time.”
While the company has canceled its mainstage performances, it still hopes to produce entertainment this season. The format is yet to be announced.
