WHAT IS IT LIKE GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL IN THE MIDDLE OF A GLOBAL PANDEMIC: I was extremely sad and lost all hope because I thought I wouldn’t be able to graduate. But, we have an amazing faculty, staff, and family at Schenectady High. They put together this virtual graduation that highlights each student’s accomplishments. Although it’s not the same as walking across the stage, this is a time where students can tell themselves that “I made it.” Even with the hardships going on around us, these students still worked hard to be here today. Graduating in the middle of a pandemic is life-changing and eye-opening. I appreciate all the nurses, teachers, parents, workers, etc. who help the community every day.
WHAT DID YOU LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR CLASSMATES THIS SEMESTER: I have more patience and appreciation for teachers. I’m thankful that I had amazing teachers that balanced their life outside of school but were there for their students. For my classmates, I’m sad that I didn’t get to officially say goodbye to them. I wish them all the best after graduation. I learned that my classmates are extraordinary. Kids who struggled in school worked hard out of school. Each kid balanced working life, rigorous classes, and family. They worked for their moment to graduate as a senior and I couldn’t be any more proud.
WHAT IS A MEMORY OF YOUR SENIOR YEAR YOU’LL NEVER FORGET: I’ll never forget when my friend first got her license. We visited the school a couple of weeks before it started and it was raining. We didn’t bring an umbrella and we were locked out of the school for some time. By the time we got inside, we were soaking wet and laughed it off.
WHAT YOU WILL MISS MOST ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL: My teachers
WHAT’S IN YOUR MUSIC PLAYER: I don’t have a music player. I’m more of an old school radio or CD girl.
BEST PART ABOUT GRADUATING: Knowing that your four-year journey of high school has ended and you get to start a new journey with whatever you want to do next in your life. The opportunity to explore my interests. I’m excited to transfer to another state and travel.
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: My sister.
