Montgomery County — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department is investigating three break-ins that occurred this weekend.

Overnight Sunday, burglaries took place in St. Johnsville at Parkside Drive-In and Lombardo’s Pizzeria Plus and in Sprakers at Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter.

At Parkside Drive-In, 7485 Route 5, the cash register was stolen, forcing the restaurant to remain closed Monday.

Lombardo’s, located at 7845 Route 5, less than 2 miles from the drive-in, also had a cash register stolen. Montgomery County Sheriff Jeffery Smith said that combined, less than $10 in cash was stolen.

The cash registers were recovered — each was separately discovered and reported by citizens — after they were discarded on local roads, authorities said.

A window was broken to access Parkside Drive-In, authorities said, while a door was damaged at Lombardo’s.

At the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, nothing was stolen, Smith said.

“They had a loose dog inside, which we believe scared the suspect away,” Smith said.

Videos were obtained from the animal shelter and drive-in incidents, with Smith noting it appears the break-ins are connected.

“We’re following up leads and doing the investigation as we speak,” Smith said.

State police are aiding the investigation.

Smith said the Sheriff’s Department and the St. Johnsville Police Department are sharing information.
