SCHENECTADY – Two juveniles have been charged in connection with a box truck fire Monday in Schenectady, city fire officials said.
The fire happened just after 1 p.m. at 401 Lang St. Firefighters were called there for a box delivery truck on fire. The truck was parked alongside several other vehicles and within 20 feet of a commercial building, officials said.
The city’s Fire Investigation Unit quickly determined the fire to be suspicious and, with the help of police, began to canvas the neighborhood.
Through witness statements and video footage, investigators quickly zeroed in on two suspects, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old. The 15-year-old was charged and released on an appearance ticket. The 16-year-old was arraigned and released to appear in court later. Their names were not released due to their ages.
The fire was among two dozen fires the department has responded to since mid-May, including nuisance fires, car fires and building fires, officials said. Six arrests have been made in all and more could come, officials said.
