TOWN OF FLORIDA – Swimmers in Montgomery County found the body of a man in Schoharie Creek this week and  the man’s death has been ruled an accidental drowning, state police said.

State police responded to the creek in the area of Power House Road in the Town of Florida at about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, troopers said.

Swimmers there reported they had gone into the creek to swim and found a deceased person in the water, state police said.

State police Thursday identified the man as 79-year-old Edward Kazlauskas, of Fonda. An autopsy performed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam determined his cause of death to have been accidental drowning.

A state police release Thursday did not indicate when Kazlauskas was last seen or when they believe he entered the water.

The incident remained under investigation Thursday, state police said.
