Albany has homicide Saturday morning

A 31-year-old man was fatally shot on Grand Street

ALBANY — The early summer gun violence in Albany continued on Saturday with a fatal shooting early in the morning and a second, non-fatal shooting in the afternoon.

Albany police said a 31-year-old died from gunshot wounds to the torso after being shot  at around 3:15 a.m. on Grand Street, in the area of Ash Grove Place. Officers responding to a report of shots fired found the victim.

The victim was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police on Saturday were withholding the name pending notification to family.

It was the city’s fifth homicide since the beginning of June, though police have made only one homicide arrest. The Albany County Sheriff’s Office and state police have assigned additional personnel to Albany to try to stop the violence.

They said an 18-year-old male victim sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to Albany Medical Center. That incident remains under investigation.
