Troopers: Schenectady man faces drug felonies after Amsterdam traffic stop

AMSTERDAM – A Schenectady man faces multiple felony drug charges after a traffic stop in Amsterdam this past week, state police said.

Dheeraj Sukhu, 29, of Schenectady, was arrested Tuesday on one count each of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal sale of marijuana and third-degree criminal possession of marijuana, all felonies.

State police stopped Sukhu on Route 5 in Amsterdam Tuesday for a traffic infraction. The trooper smelled marijuana upon speaking to him. A search of the vehicle then uncovered about 2.5 grams of cocaine, more than 35 grams of marijuana, concentrated cannabis and a quantity of ecstasy, state police said.

Sukhu was arrested and released to appear in court later.
