SHARON – A Schoharie County man has been arrested, accused of destroying a stolen trailer in a field last weekend, state police said.
Scott Kleinberger, 58, of Sharon, faces one count each of second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree grand larceny and first-degree criminal contempt, all felonies.
State police responded July 11 to a residence in the town of Sharon after the homeowner found Kleinberger using a tractor to pull a box trailer across the homeowner’s hay field, state police said.
The homeowner confronted Kleinberger and saw that the trailer didn’t have any wheels. The homeowner asked Kleinberger to leave and return with wheels. When the homeowner when to check to see if the trailer had been removed, the homeowner found it demolished.
Troopers soon determined that Kleinberger did not have permission to take the trailer and that the trailer owner had a full stay-away order of protection against Kleinberger, state police said.
Troopers found Kleinberger at a Cobleskill residence and took him into custody. That also led to an additional misdemeanor contempt charge after troopers determined the owner of that home also had an order of protection against Kleinberger, state police said.
Kleinberger was arraigned and ordered held on $800 bail.
