TOWN OF DAY – A Schenectady man drowned Sunday in the town of Day, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.

Hashmatulh Yousefi, 31, of Schenectady, died in the incident, officials said.

The incident happened just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Town of Day Beach on North Shore Road in Day, officials said. Emergency responders were called there for a report of a missing man.

Yousefi had been at the beach to spend the day with family and friends when he went missing, officials said.

Yousefi was discovered and removed from the water by good Samaritans assisting in the search, officials said. Responding deputies immediately deployed their defibrillator and began CPR in an attempt to revive the man.

EMS and fire responders arrived and took over life-saving efforts. After extended attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy Monday confirmed his cause of death as drowning, officials said.

The sheriff’s office thanked the good Samaritans, along with the Edinburgh Fire Department and Jessup’s Landing EMS.
