MALTA – A Friday night checkpoint on Interstate 87 uncovered a drunk driver with a 6-year-old child in his car, state police said.
Clifford C. Colvin, Jr., 60, of Malta, was arrested just after 11 p.m. Friday on one count each of Leandra’s Law DWI and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, felonies, along with circumventing an interlock device, a misdemeanor, state police said.
Troopers stopped Colvin at a DWI checkpoint at Exit 13. The trooper smelled alcohol at the checkpoint and asked him to pull to the side, state police said. Troopers also discovered the child.
Colvin showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests. He later refused to provide a breath sample, state police said.
He was arraigned and held, state police said. He is due back in court later.
