CLIFTON PARK – A Schenectady man drove drunk with two children in his car this past week in Clifton Park, state police said.
David L. Bennett, 32, of Schenectady, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of Leandra’s Law DWI, felonies, along with driving while ability impaired by drugs and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal contempt, misdemeanors.
Troopers responded to Grooms Road just after 6 p.m. July 29 for a report of a hit-and-run accident. A vehicle had driven off the roadway, causing property damage and then left the scene, state police said.
A trooper on patrol found the vehicle nearby and observed that the driver, Bennett, showed signs of impairment, state police said.
Field sobriety tests showed signs of impairment, state police said. He was later evaluated by a drug recognition expert.
Inside the car were also a 10-year-old and a 6-year-old, both of whom were protected parties in a full stay-away order of protection against Bennett, state police said.
He was arrested and later released on an appearance ticket to appear in court later.
