Book will help kids go in right direction

Regarding the story in the July 29 Daily Gazette (“Mentors warn kids of gang lifestyle,”) I must applaud these men who have turned their lives around from very difficult situations (e.g. being incarcerated) to mentoring young people.

If they have not read the book “Gifted Hands” by Dr. Ben Carson, I recommend they do so, and also recommend it to all youths, especially those they are trying to help (who seem to be headed in the wrong direction).

The book, available in local bookstores, has also been translated into Spanish and Chinese, and is also available in a “kids” version.

I also recommend Dr. Carson’s book to all single moms to show them they can steer their children to overcome the myriad problems that face them. If their children don’t read, this is one of the problems they must overcome. This is apparent in the book.

One of the speakers, Shaquan Page, pointed out that “…everything starts with self,” a lesson Dr. Carson learned that helped him to become a world renowned pediatric neurosurgeon.

Parents might have to take away their cell phone and computer privileges for a portion of the day to encourage them to read. It may be tough to do, but obviously we are in really tough times, with all that is going on.

Parents should make sure the reading material is appropriate – there is much that would not be suitable.

President abdicates while covid worsens

You are an American citizen and America has an attack just like 9/11. Three days later there is another, three days later another, three days another.

The president tells you he is a wartime president. Three days another, three days later another and the president tells you that they will stop. Three days another, three days another, another and the president tells you our economy needs to return to normal.

Three days another, three days later another, three days later another, three days later another and the president tells you he is not responsible.

Three days later another, three days another, three days another, three days another and we are at 63,000 dead. Three days another, three days another, another attack, three days yet another and 280 days of golf.

Three days later another attack, the president says we are doing well. Three days another, over 14,000 tweets, three days another attack. Three days later another attack, that’s 112,000 now dead.

Are you willing to wear a mask?

Is the president responsible as we are at over 150,000 dead with no end in sight? Send your children back to school. We don’t know the long term effects of COVID-19. There is another attack three days later.
