State police identify those killed, hurt in Saturday night Rotterdam 890 crash


ROTTERDAM – State police Monday identified the two people killed in a crash late Saturday on Interstate 890 in Rotterdam as a boy from Schenectady and a woman from Troy.

Latara A. Chandler, 32, of Troy, died at the scene of the crash near Exit 9. Passenger Elon T. Carter, 11, of Schenectady, died later at the hospital.

Four others in the car were also hurt in the crash, two critically.

Aisha S. Brown, 29, of Troy, and Serenitey S. Bush, 14, of Schenectady, were both taken to Albany Medical Center for critical injuries. They remained in critical but stable condition Monday, state police said.

Desnae L. Felton, 30, of Schenectady, and Zanaya Chandler, no age given, of Troy, were taken to Albany Medical Center for non-critical injuries. 

The crash happened just before midnight near eastbound Exit 9A in Rotterdam, state police said. The vehicle left the south shoulder of the roadway and rolled, according to state police and information from the scene.

The car came to rest in a grassy area off the interstate. 

State police Monday offered no new details on the investigation, only saying that the investigation remained ongoing.
