Saratoga Sheriff: Thefts from cars in Milton lead to chase, arrest in Malta woods

SARATOGA COUNTY – Thefts from cars in Milton Tuesday night led to a chase and arrest of a man who fled into woods in Malta, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.

Officials identified the man arrested as Daquan R. Johnson, 27, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.. He was faces three felonies and a misdemeanor.

The incident began just after 7 p.m. with a report of a theft from a vehicle at the Doubleday Fields on Malta Avenue in Milton, officials said.


Deputies arrived to reports of two vehicles there that had their windows smashed out and items stolen from them, officials said.

Deputies soon got a description of the vehicle used by the suspect and notified area law enforcement. State park police soon spotted a vehicle matching the description and attempted to stop it on Route 9 in Saratoga Springs, but the driver sped off, officials said.

The driver then led police on a chase that ended as the suspect abandoned his vehicle and ran into woods in the area of Phaeton Lane in Malta, officials said.

Officers then took the man into custody as he exited the woods on Route 9, officials said.

Johnson faces charges of third-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and fourth-degree grand larceny, felonies, along with misdemeanor stolen property possession, violation marijuana possession and officials also found a warrant out for him from Pennsylvania/

Johnson was arraigned and ordered held without bail.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the New York State Park Police and the Ballston Spa Police Department.
