
SCHOHARIE COUNTY – Two Schoharie County men face child pornography charges in separate cases, state police said.
Robert Weinberg, 39, of Schoharie, was arrested Wednesday and charged with possessing and promoting a sexual performance by a child, felonies, along with three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, state police said.
Weinberg is accused of possessing the child pornography in an investigation that began wit the state Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
During a search of his property, investigators then also found an illegal assault rifle, two high-capacity magazines and a quantity of ecstasy and concentrated marijuana, officials said.
He also faces three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanors.
Weinberg was arraigned and released on bail. He is due back in court Monday.
In the other case, state police arrested Robert W. Messler, 33, of Cobleskill, Thursday and charged him with possessing and promoting a sexual performance by a child, felonies, as well as one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
He is accused of possessing the child pornography in an investigation that also started with the state Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
During a search of his residence, investigators discovered a handgun he did not have a permit to own, officials said.
Messler was arraigned and released under probation supervision. He is to appear in court again next month.
