Simultaneous peaceful protests were held in Haslett Park Saturday, with a handful of individuals gathering for each of the separate Back the Blue and Black Lives Matter rallies.

While similar simultaneous Back the Blue and Black Lives Matter protests held previously in Canajoharie and Fort Plain turned acrimonious, with members of the two movements yelling at and insulting one another from opposite corners, Saturday’s event was entirely peaceful throughout.

While the Back the Blue group spoke out in support of law enforcement, and the Black Lives Matter supporters spoke out against racial injustice, members of both parties engaged in productive conversations with one another Saturday, with several supporters of each movement agreeing that they’d prefer for similar future gatherings to remain peaceful.
