Section II confirmed Thursday its plan to conduct a fall sports season that starts with Sept. 21 for “low” and “moderate” risk sports, but announced that there will not be any postseason play at the Section II level.

Already, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association had announced that it will not sponsor any state tournaments this fall season. Now, Section II programs competing in cross country, field hockey, golf, soccer, girls’ swimming and diving, and girls’ tennis will conduct seasons that “will focus on regular season play, primarily with league competition,” according to a press release issued Thursday from Section II.

Wednesday night, the NYSPHSAA announced that seasons for “high” risk fall sports —  football and volleyball, and competitive cheerleading’s fall season — will be postponed until next March in response to restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Practices for sports remaining in the traditional fall season are able to start Sept. 21. That fall season will run through Nov. 28.

This report will be updated.
