Schenectady police search building following gas drive-off

SCHENECTADY — Authorities are attempting to untangle a series of events that converged at a Craig Street apartment building on Friday.

Police investigating a gas drive-off from the Stewart’s Shop on Broadway located the alleged driver at 400 Craig St., home to the Electric City Barn, on Friday morning.

That suspect was arrested, said Lt. Ryan Macherone.

At the same time, police were investigating a possible parole violator at the same location.

“Right now, it’s almost as if it’s two separate incidents,” Macherone said.

The suspect in that case remains at-large.

It’s unclear if weapons were involved, Macherone said.

Police, some outfitted in tactical gear, combed the building and neighborhood for hours on Friday.

At least two cars were towed from the scene, including a Honda and a black Audi with Vermont plates.

An identical Audi remained on-scene by 2 p.m. Friday, while several streets remained taped off.

Macherone confirmed at least one car will be searched pending a search warrant.
