AMSTERDAM – A city man fired shots Thursday night during a fight on Amsterdam’s Southside and now faces multiple felonies, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Arrested was Thomas S. Flores, 32, of 13 Essex St., Amsterdam. He faces multiple felony weapons counts, along with one count of first-degree reckless endangerment.
The incident happened Thursday night at about 10:30 p.m. in the area of Bridge Street on the Southside. The initial call came in for a fight, then for shots fired, police said.
Arriving officers spotted a large group in the area of Bridge and Erie streets. Officers also soon found eight rifle shell casings near the Erie Canal Bike Path crossing at Bridge Street.
Officers soon identified Flores as the suspect and also identified his vehicle. Police checked his residence and found the vehicle there. The officers then approached the residence and Flores soon emerged to speak with them. Police took Flores into custody.
A search warrant at Flores’ residence Friday morning then revealed the weapon believed to have been used in the incident, as well as three other guns, one a handgun.
Police identified the specific weapons counts Flores faces as second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree criminal use of a firearm, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, all felonies, as well as a misdemeanor count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Flores was arraigned and ordered held on $20,000 bail.
