The Palooza celebrations are back this weekend, with a virtual PearlPalooza and YogaPalooza taking place in two downtown Albany locations on Saturday.
Bands like Eastbound Jesus, Wild Adriatic, Victory Soul Orchestra and MIRK will perform via Facebook Live on WEQX’s page throughout the afternoon. Some downtown Albany restaurants will also be live streaming the performances.
The day kicks off at 11 a.m. with YogaPalooza, which is organized by The Hot Yoga Spot. Traditionally, it takes place on Pearl Street and brings in hundreds of participants.
“This event will look a little different than it did in past years,” Jessica Fuller, owner of The Hot Yoga Spot, told WEQX on Wednesday.
To comply with safety regulations surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, there will be two yoga sessions happening simultaneously from 11 a.m. to noon at the SUNY Plaza and Tricentennial Park. Each session is capped at 50 people and though both are filled, organizers encourage those who are interested to get on the wait list.
“It’s a creative solution to the problems going on right now and we’re definitely excited about it,” Fuller said.
Then, PearlPalooza starts at 1 p.m. with performances streamed from the stage at The Hollow Bar + Kitchen. First up is MIRK, an Albany-based band known for blending pop, soul, rock, R&B and hip-hop.
Then, at 2:15 p.m. the nine-plus horn funk and soul band known as Victory Soul Orchestra will take the stage, followed by the funk-infused rock outfit Wild Adriatic at 3:30 p.m.
Eastbound Jesus, the Greenwich-based folk-rock band, will conclude the event with a performance starting at 4:45 p.m.
While the shows will be live-streamed from The Hollow, the following restaurants will also be streaming the event and featuring PearlPalooza specials:
