Saratoga Sheriff: Milton man burglarized acquaintance’s Greenfield home; Woman fights off second entry

GREENFIELD – A Milton man broke into a female acquaintance’s home and stole items, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.

On a second entry, the woman fought him off in the presence of her child, officials said.

Dean J. Atwell, 31, of Paisley Road, was arrested Wednesday and charged with third-degree robbery, third-degree attempted robbery and third-degree burglary, felonies.

Atwell is accused of forcing his way into the home early Wednesday, causing damage to the doorway. He then forcibly stole property from the female acquaintance there. Officials described the incident as a domestic.

Atwell then later attempted to steal more property from the victim, but she was able to fight him off, officials said. The second incident happened in the presence of the woman’s child.

Atwell then fled on foot. Sheriff’s deputies then found Atwell a short distance away. He attempted to run, but deputies found him with the assistance of a K9 unit.

Atwell was confrontational with deputies, but they got him into custody without injuries.

Atwell was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child, fourth-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.

Atwell was arraigned and ordered held on $30,000 bail.
