MAAC releases basketball schedules

The Siena men’s basketball program will start its 2020-21 MAAC season Dec. 8 at Rider, while the Siena women will start league play Dec. 9 vs. Niagara.

The MAAC schedules were released Tuesday, less than a week after the conference announced its revamped scheduling model for the 2020-21 season. Each MAAC team will play 20 conference games like normal, but league play will utilize more dates in December. Men’s games will take place Tuesdays and Fridays, while women’s games will take place Wednesdays and Saturdays. The dates of Dec. 22-23 are being left open for teams to schedule a non-conference game, and the last week of February has no games scheduled for it in case games need to be rescheduled to that week because of postponements related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Home court for the Siena women is listed as the on-campus Alumni Recreation Center, while the Siena men have a “TBD” designation. Siena is still considering playing home games for its men’s team at Times Union Center in downtown Albany despite no fans being allowed at any MAAC games through at least Dec. 23.

The non-conference season starts Nov. 25 and practice is allowed to begin Oct. 14.
