TROY — A Cohoes man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing Ayshawn Davis, an 11-year-old Lansingburgh resident who was killed in a drive-by shooting on Sept. 12, according to the Troy Police Department.
Twenty-year-old Jahquay E. Brown was arrested at 11:30 a.m. after police executed a search warrant at his home on Saratoga Street. He has since been interviewed by detectives and a handgun was found at his residence, according to Deputy Chief of Police Daniel DeWolf. The weapon is “believed” to have been used in the crime, DeWolf wrote in a statement, and it is awaiting testing. Officers brought him to Troy City Court for arraignment on the count of second-degree murder.
“I cannot express enough, the pride and gratitude we feel for the dogged and determined work of the officers, detectives and fellow law enforcement agencies that made this arrest possible,” DeWolf wrote. “Thank you to the media for keeping the tragic death of Ayshawn relevant and in the news.”
Davis was shot and killed around 2266 Old Sixth Ave. after 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, according to police, as he was standing with a group. The car sped by and opened fire before Ayshawn suffered a gunshot wound to his head. There has since been an outpouring of support from the Troy community for Davis, including vigils.
“The Troy Police Department cares deeply for the community it serves and we thank them for the support the citizens of Troy show to our members,” DeWolf wrote. “The investigation is continuing and updates will be provided when appropriate.”
