MALTA – A Clifton Park man attacked and sexually assaulted a female jogger on the Zim Smith Trail in Malta Saturday, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.
Tyler J. Gaston, 26, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and first-degree sexual abuse, felonies.
Gaston is accused of attacking the jogger and subjecting her to sexual contact by forcible compulsion, officials said. Deputies responded to the call there just before 4 p.m. Saturday.
The victim suffered an injury to her facial area and was treated on scene by Malta EMS, officials said.
Gaston was arraigned and ordered held on bail.
“This heinous attack goes against the very fiber of who we are as a community,” Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo said in a statement. “We are extremely hopeful that the victim makes a full recovery and that the suspect is held accountable for his actions to the fullest extent of the law.”
Zurlo also indicated that members of the public provided invaluable assistance in investigating the matter.
“I want to personally thank each and every one of our citizens who helped our law enforcement professionals bring this case to a swift conclusion,” Zurlo said.
