BETHLEHEM – A husband killed his wife in a murder-suicide in Selkirk after a history of domestic violence involving the man, Bethlehem Police said Wednesday.
Police identified the woman killed as Sarbjit K. Saran, 58 and the man who killed her as Bhupinder S. Saran, 58.
Police discovered them both dead inside their residence Tuesday at 56 Chesterwood Drive in Selkirk. Family members had been unable to get in contact with them and asked police to check on them.
Officers found Sarbjit K. Saran dead on the second floor and Bhupinder S. Saran, dead on the first floor. No one else was in the residence or currently resided in the residence, police said.
Autopsies confirmed Sarbjit K. Saran’s death to be a homicide and the investigation determined Bhupinder S. Saran to be responsible, police said.
Bhupinder S. Saran’s death has been ruled a suicide, police said.
Sarbjit Saran’s murder happened as she had a current refrain-from order of protection against Bhupinder S. Saran, ordering him not to have any illegal contact with her, police said. The order was issued out of Albany County Family Court.
Bethlehem Police also confirmed a past history of domestic incidents involving the two that resulted in police calls at the residence, but no calls involving them in the past 12 months, police said.
Bethlehem Police investigated with the help of the state police Major Crimes Unit, the state police Forensic Identification Unit and the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.
