Ballston Spa Police: Report of man chasing another led to burglary, weapons possession suspect

BALLSTON SPA – A report of one man chasing another led to the arrest of a village man on multiple felonies, including burglary and weapons possession, police said Monday.

Raymond M. Barnett Jr., 39, of Church Street, was charged last Sunday on one count each of second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree criminal contempt, felonies.

The incident happened Oct. 4 at about 12:30 p.m. on Church Avenue, police said. Officers responded there for a report of a man chasing another man north on Church Avenue. Officers soon found and detained Barnett.

The investigation soon determined Barnett forced his way into the victim’s apartment, damaged property and stole items. Police also said they found Barnett in possession of an illegal firearm.

Barnett was also charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and petit larceny, along with harassment, a violation.

He was arraigned and ordered held on $100,000 bail.
