SCHENECTADY – Firefighters responded to Marcella’s Appliance Clearance Center on Crane Street for a fire Tuesday morning.
The fire damaged a warehouse area and sent smoke and water damage elsewhere. The cause is not considered suspicious, officials said.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze. No other injuries were reported.
Passersby reported the blaze just after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the 812 Crane St. store and warehouse. Firefighters responded to find heavy smoke and flames. Firefighters evacuated a neighboring building and worked to put out the fire. They had it under control in about 45 minutes and out within an hour, Assistant Fire Chief Don Mareno said.
The cause remained under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious, Mareno said.
Tuesday morning’s fire comes two weeks after Marcella’s announced plans to renovate its Crane Street store, which serves as Marcella’s clearance store. (Marcella’s main Schenectady showroom is at 560 Broadway and was not impacted by the fire.)
The clearance store has been open only part time due to limited inventory from a decrease in production earlier this year from the pandemic.
