AMSTERDAM – An Amsterdam man has been arrested in connection with shots fired in August on Slater Street, police said.

No injuries resulted from the incident, police said.

Ismael R. Cortez, 25, of Amsterdam, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant charging him with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies.

Cortez is accused of firing multiple shots on Slater, near Hibbard Street at around 7:30  p.m. Aug. 10, police said.

Called there for the shots, arriving officers found evidence that a .380 caliber handgun had been fired and that the shooter had left the area. They also found no evidence of anyone hurt, police said.

Evidence, interviews and surveillance videos then led investigators to determine that Cortez fired at least one round from a .380 caliber handgun toward a group of people with whom he’d had an argument a short time earlier, police said.

Investigators could not immediately locate him and filed an arrest warrant. Police then located him on Grand Street Tuesday and took him into custody without incident, police said.

He was processed and held pending arraignment.
