TROY – A Troy man was arrested Tuesday on drug charges after police found crack cocaine concealed in candy packaging, police said.

Landers A. Burton, 20, of 10th Street, Troy, was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies.

Police arrested Burton at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Middleburgh and 9th streets as the department’s narcotics squad investigated Burton and found bags of candy with crack cocaine hidden inside, police said.

Police also found an amount of fentanyl and $2,800 in cash, police said.

“It is disturbing that candy was used as a vessel for hiding drugs,” police spokesman Deputy Police Chief Daniel DeWolf said in a statement. “Had a child found this candy and ingested the contents, the outcome could have tragic. Thankfully these drugs were taken off the street and the person responsible in custody. Great police work.”

Burton was held pending arraignment.
