HALFMOON – A Colonie woman has been arrested on drunken driving and vehicular assault charges after a head-on crash last week that sent a Clifton Park woman to the hospital, state police said.
The injured other driver was extricated and taken to Albany Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, state police said Monday.
Troopers identified the accused drunken driver as Sarah Zimmerman, 24, of Colonie.
State police charged Zimmerman Friday with one count each of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and second-degree vehicular assault, a felony, state police said.
The crash happened just before 8 a.m. last Tuesday morning on Grooms Road, state police said.
Zimmerman crossed into the oncoming lane and into the path of a vehicle driven by Paula Wait, 47, of Clifton Park, state police said.
Wait was pinned in her vehicle until first responders could get her out, state police said.
Zimmerman was also taken for treatment, state police said.
At the scene, troopers interviewed Zimmerman and observed multiple signs of intoxication. The trooper performed partial field sobriety tests due to Zimmerman’s injuries, state police said.
Zimmerman was arraigned and released to appear in court later.
