Schools: Shenendehowa field hockey gets hat tricks from Eggleston, Kuzmich in win

Shenendehowa knocked in two goals in each quarter and beat Columbia 8-0 in a Suburban Council field hockey game Saturday in East Greenbush.

Kendall Eggleston collected three goals and an assist for the Plainsmen, and Julie Kuzmich also had a hat trick.

Hannah Merritt added a goal and two assists as the 7-1 Plainsmen remained tied for first with Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. The Spartans edged Guilderland in overtime 1-0.

Zack Lind’s second-half goal enabled Niskayuna to tie Saratoga Springs 1-1 in a boys’ Suburban Council soccer game. Lucas Varghese scored for the Blue Streaks.

Kiera Patrick and Kaitlyn Pomeroy scored three goals apiece, and Karl Cassidy and Abby Malagisi both scored twice, to lift Burnt Hills over Schenectady 15-0 in a girls’ Suburban Council soccer game.

Emily Baumes had a hat trick, Shayla Smith and Emily Silva each scored twice and Ella White had a goal and three assists in Shenendehowa’s 10-0 win over Troy.

In boys’ cross country, Nathan Brimhall’s winning time of 15 minutes, 44.3 seconds over the championship course at Saratoga Spa State Park led Shenendehowa in a 24-33 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, which was led by Matthew Rounds in second and Ryan Allison in third.

In girls’ cross country, Shenendehowa’s Luccabella Hotaling outpaced her nearest competitor by nearly a minute, finishing in 18:23.5 to pace a 25-30 Suburban Council team victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.
