Schools: Scotia-Glenville, Queensbury prevail in Foothills Council girls’ tennis tournament

Sophia Velasco led a sweep of the singles as Scotia-Glenville topped South Glens Falls 7-0 in the semifinals of the Foothills Council girls’ tennis tournament Thursday.

Charlotte Tvelia, Cassie Cenzano, Emma Schaub and Maddie Cook also prevailed in singles play, and the 9-2 Tartans got doubles wins from Piper Wiegert and Kaitlyn Blucher, and Emma Mathes and Natalie McGlauflin.

Queensbury ran its mark to 10-0 with a 7-0 semifinal win over Glens Falls. Queensbury No. 1 singles Meghan Chase extended her season record to 10-0.

Burnt Hills/Scotia defeated Guilderland/Voorheesville 99-84 in a Suburban Council swimming meet. Kaci Owens won the 100 free and 200 free and helped out on two of Burnt Hills/Scotia’s three triumphant relays.

Kate Musser and Isabelle Tedesco scored the goals in Shaker’s 2-0 Suburban Council field hockey win over Niskayuna.

Cooper Murray collected a pair of goals to spark Troy’ in a 3-0 Suburban Council girls’ soccer win over Albany. Margaret Adams made five saves for the shutout.
