
CLIFTON PARK — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal garbage truck crash that occurred Friday afternoon on Hubbs Road.
According to a press release, the sheriff’s office reported to a call of a garbage truck rollover crash at about 2:45 p.m. Friday. The truck was traveling south on Hubbs Road, went off onto the shoulder, struck a utility pole, a tree and a wood chipper truck before rolling over. The wood chipper was not on the road.
Killed was Tyrek J. Brace, 27, of Mechanicville. Injured of a result of the crash was Matthew B. Freihofer, 41, of Ballston Spa. He was working for Ward Brothers clearing brush. He suffered minor injuries.
Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed involved, the sheriff’s office said.
According to the release, Tyrek was pinned inside the truck and was dead upon arrival of first responders. Freihofer also received minor injuries as a result of the crash.
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit, Criminal Investigation Unit and Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit are inspecting the incident. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Saratoga County Office of Emergency Services, New York State Police, Jonesville Fire, Round Lake Fire, Malta Fire and Clifton Park Halfmoon EMS.
According to the release, “The crash scene is quite extensive and it will be some time before the investigation is complete.”
