The UAlbany women’s basketball team was picked to finish in fourth place in the America East Conference’s preseason poll, the league announced Tuesday.

Maine edged Stony Brook for the top spot, while UMass Lowell was third.

“It’s exciting to think about what conference play will look like this year,” UAlbany head coach Colleen Mullen said in a press release issued through the UAlbany athletic department.  “Maine and Stony Brook are both experienced and talented as they return key contributors in their front and backcourts.  I anticipate many exciting weekend match-ups with so much parity among the teams.   We’re all focusing on doing whatever it takes to keep our players safe, healthy, and prepared to give them the opportunity to have a complete and successful conference season.”

At the moment, all UAlbany athletic activity is “suspended indefinitely” as part of the school’s shift to remote learning for the rest of the fall semester. Mullen’s team’s last practice prior to the athletic department’s latest pause was Monday.

Last season, UAlbany finished 9-21 overall and 5-11 in conference play.

Making the America East’s preseason all-conference team were Maine seniors Maeve Carroll, Bianca Millan and Dor Saar, UMass Lowell junior Kharis Idom and Stony Brook senior India Pagan.
