Saratoga girls take top five spots in cross country win

Saratoga Springs runners took the top five spots led by Ella Kurto and Mackenzie Hart, and the unbeaten Blue Streaks topped Bethlehem 15-48 in a girls’ Suburban Council cross country meet Saturday at Saratoga Spa State Park.

Other girls’ winners were Mia Paolino of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Leonni Griffin of Shaker, Sofia Rust of Ballston Spa and Olivia Ashline of Troy. Paolino led the Spartans past Colonie.

On the boys side, Ryan Bush of Saratoga, Devin Decker of Schenectady, Nathan Brimhall of Shenendehowa, Matt Rounds of Burnt Hills and Nate Davis of Columbia ran to victories. Bush helped Saratoga defeat both CBA and Bethlehem.

Iddrisu Haruna and Evan Nowak scored the goals as the Schenectady boys’ soccer team edged Columbia 2-1 for its second Suburban Council win.

Johnny Weidman’s goal with nine minutes left gave Colonie a 1-0 win over Troy.

The Colonie girls got past Troy on a  first-half goal by Kayla Novak.
