
Albany Police arrested a 27-year-old man Sunday morning on suspicion of stabbing his mother to death Saturday night, according to a media release.
Kristopher Castanon was charged with second-degree murder after he allegedly stabbed his mother, Denise Castanon, 53, multiple times inside of a home in the 100 block of North Manning Boulevard, a few blocks east of the Harriman state office complex.
Police responded to the home Saturday at around 11:45 p.m. in response to reports of an altercation, finding Castanon inside the home with multiple stab wounds; she was treated at the scene and rushed to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police located Kristopher Castanon shortly after the call near the crime scene with the help of SUNY Police at the University at Albany’s K-9 unit, according to police, and arrested him. He has since been charged with one count of second-degree murder and is scheduled to be arraigned in Albany Criminal Court.
