COLONIE – A pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday night on Troy-Schenectady Road in Latham, Colonie police said.

The crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. near Monroe Avenue when a man walking in the left, westbound, travel lane and pushing a leaf blower was struck by a car, police said.

Killed in the crash was Nicholas Huban, 69, of Latham. He was taken from the scene by Colonie EMS, but died en route to the hospital, police said.

The driver of the car was identified as Amar Khoukhi, 59, of Latham. He immediately stopped and attempted to perform CPR on Huban, police said.

Neither Khoukhi, nor his 17-year-old son, who was a passenger in the car, were injured, police said.

The driver and son are fully cooperating with police in the investigation and police do not believe speed or driver impairment were factors, police said.

Troy-Schenectady Road in the area of the crash was to remain closed until the on-scene investigation is complete, police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact police at 518-782-2600.
