COLONIE – A Colonie woman was killed in a Tuesday night fire in Colonie, police said.
Police identified the woman as Jennifer E. Moran, 47, of 3 George St.
Firefighters were called to the home just before 11 p.m. Tuesday for reports it was on fire.
Arriving officers found heavy fire at the home and learned that the lone resident and owner may still be inside, police said.
The officers’ attempts to enter the residence were unsuccessful due to the heavy fire, police said.
Multiple fire departments responded and the initial fire crews and Colonie EMS were able to enter and find the woman. She was treated by EMS at the scene, but could not be revived, police said.
An autopsy performed Wednesday determined Moran’s cause of death to be asphyxia secondary to smoke inhalation.
One member of Colonie EMS suffered breathing issues and was treated and released from Albany Medical Center.
A cat also died in the fire, police said.
The Colonie Fire Services Division continued to investigate the cause Wednesday, but there was no early indication of criminal activity, police said. They were being assisted by the state Office of Fire Prevention and control.
Anyone with information on the fire is asked to contact the Colonie Police Department at 518-783-2744.
