Scotia Police: Level 1 sex offender charged with rape

SCOTIA — A Level 1 sex offender has been arrested for rape in Scotia, police said.

Joel H. Stieinhoff, 46, of Scotia, was arrested Monday and charged with one count of second-degree rape, a felony.

The allegations stem from the past year, Police Chief Daniel P. Harrigan said. Investigators received the report Monday and arrested Steinhoff the same day.

Police identified Steinhoff as a Level 1 sex offender. Details on his prior case were unavailable. 

The current investigation remained ongoing Wednesday, Harrigan said.

Steinhoff was arraigned and ordered held.
